UMBC Men's Rugby FC

About Us

Rugby is the only real contact sport on campus. We play in the Potomac Rugby Union (PRU) Division 2 Baltimore.

Since it's creation in 1984, the UMBC Rugby Football Club has been defining, charismatic, and an intoxicating force at the university and on the pitch.  UMBC players have a fire in their hearts, uniting all who have earned their patch.  Anyone is welcome to join, no experience is necessary. Learn more in the About Us page.

Last fall we celebrated one of UMBC best seasons finishing 4th in our Region.  This fall we hope to keep the momentum up as we face a schedule against the regions top talent.  See schedule for details and check back often for game results.

The 2011 team has set lofty goals in our continued pursuit of excellence.  On the pitch we settle for nothing less than winning every tournament we enter both on and off the field.   Off the pitch we will look to further increase our involvement on campus, and help to join UMBC and its neighboring communities.

This will be a grueling 9-week campaign consisting of five matches and four tournaments.  That is 16 games in total.  The 2011 team invites all Alumni, friends and family to come cheer us on and share in the excitement.

In the Spring, we play a variety of tournaments and friendly games. Practice is three times a week on Monday,Wednesday and Friday with our world-renowned coach, Rusty Cross.  Practices will be held at the rugby house on Walker Field as soon as the new field is ready.  For now, they are held at The Pit across from the Harbor dorms.  Can't make practices on Mon-Wed-Fri?  We have conditioning practices on Tuesday and Thursday.  Games are on Saturdays, and each one consists of two 40-minute halves. We usually play more than one game so everyone will get a run. It's a great way to get in excellent shape and work out your aggression. The team functions as both a sport and a social club. So if you're interested in joining, contact one of our members using the information listed on our contacts page.  Please make sure to check our website often to see updates about our schedule, practice times, roster, results and your daily jokes from yours truly.

Cheers,
